Character Studies
Silk Screen on Maple Pine
Each Panel Set: 12’ x 8’ throughout a 120’ x 24’ x 16’ space
2002

Character Studies consists of 19 portraits of 70 members of the Loyola Village/Westchester Library community (children, teens, adults, librarians and patrons) depicting their favorite literary characters with imagery from the appropriate text(s). The portraits were silk-screened with sepia ink on to maple plywood panels. Along with the portraits, we created a repeating decorative motif for 38 additional panels, which flank each portrait. All of these pieces are installed on the ceiling and walls of the main room of the library, checker-boarded with plain plywood panels.

This piece was commissioned by the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles.
